Its primary function is as an anti-irritant ingredient.  In vitro experiments have demonstrated free radical scavenging ability.  Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is an active stable vitamin C derivative ingredient.  It liberates vitamin C in the skin and protects the cells of the skin, promotes collagen formation, and lightens dark skin.  Gotu Kola Herb Extract is a natural extract of Centella Asiatica. Gotu kola has been used traditionally for skin healing.
